Damascus Steel and Blade Detail

The blade is carefully hand forged from 15N20 & 1095 steel through a traditional process of layering, forge welding, hammering, shaping, and finishing. This process creates a distinctive Damascus pattern across every blade, giving each Ulu knife its own individual handcrafted appearance.

The blade is oil quenched at approximately 2100°F and rapidly cooled, with the process repeated twice to develop hardness throughout the steel. The finished blade achieves approximately HRC 62+ on the Rockwell Scale for dependable strength, durability, edge retention, and cutting performance.

The compact Ulu-style blade is designed for controlled slicing, chopping, mincing, and general food preparation, while its distinctive curved profile also gives the knife a strong handcrafted visual character.

Scales & Handle

The handle is handcrafted from exotic wenge wood, selected for its distinctive grain, natural appearance, and comfortable feel in the hand.

A brass mosaic pin adds decorative detail while helping secure the handle construction. Full tang construction extends the blade steel through the handle for additional strength, stability, and dependable balance.

The wenge wood is carefully treated and finished to help protect it from drying, moisture, and normal kitchen use.
